A Message From Randy
Dear Friends Present and Future
For
those new friends, my name is Randy Owens, and I am 27 years old. When I
was two, I was hit by a car, and as a result, I'm paralyzed. But God says
He knew every day of our lives before we were ever born. He loves us and
is watching over us. He also says that He has plans for each of us, and
they are good. So I know He had something for me to do, and it could not
be accomplished in any other way.
As a young adult, I, and others like me, understand our need to be
independent and fulfill our purpose in life. My heart hurts when I see
young adults living in institutions or nursing homes, or just feeling
alone. I have been blessed, and I want to enrich the lives of those who
have disabilities. I would like to make it possible for them to have a
choice about how they would like to live their lives. I want to bring them
the hope or a happier, more meaningful life. I want to open opportunities
for fulfilling employment and volunteer opportunities to give back to this
community. I want to surround them with joy, new friends, and a sense of
belonging.
To accomplish this goal, we have started a nonprofit corporation. We call
it "Our Neighbor." By definition, a neighbor is "one who shows mercy." I
take that to mean serving one another in love. I would rather be able to
walk, but having these limitations has opened my eyes to the needs of
others, and for that I am grateful.
Our first goal is to have houses in the city that will give priority to
young adults with physical limitations. Besides independence, it will give
us fellowship, and give others a chance to get to know us.
This is work that God gave me to do, and I am responsible to get it done.
My family, friends, and our board of directors are committed to joining me
in this mission. If it sparks your interest, let us tell you more.
Sending this with my prayer that God will bless you
