Responding To The Need...

Our Neighbor is an innovative approach to caring for our neighbors with physical challenges. Young adults who live their lives with the constant challenge of physical limitations often feel lonely and excluded. Their intelligence and talents need to be in the mainstream of life, and a desire to be accepted for who they are can sometimes be overlooked, ignored or misunderstood. Many people tend to see the physical limitations and fail to see the person inside. These young people have lived so much of their lives depending on others, and they want to be as independent as possible in daily living

Our goal is to respond to these needs for as many of these productive people as we can to enable them to be active participants in the community. We intend to provide a place of hope, love, life and laughter. Our plan is to provide young residents with a secure home of their own by providing accessible housing specific to their needs. Committed and enthusiastic leaders are bringing others into the lives of these extraordinary young people. Our leaders need your help by securing properties and making them accessible for the physically challenged. Each person will enjoy independence while interacting with the other residents and caring neighbors. A resident home coordinator will provide assistance when needed. We will establish a cottage industry program to provide employment opportunities consistent with levels of ability.

Randy's House

When Marty and Randy Owens were given the idea for a home for handicapped young adults several years ago, they had no idea to what extent this conception would take them and the ones who eventually became involved with the project. As Randy stated, “When Our Neighbor took shape in our hearts, we planned on one house.” It didn’t take long for mother and son to discover the deep desire of so many families to find a place such as Randy’s House for their own children. For these homes are a double blessing – not only do they give the residents independence, but their families can have peace in their hearts knowing their adult children will have more meaningful lives.
